The consortium

Seven parties together form the BRIX consortium. Over the coming years, we are building a lasting innovation ecosystem together.

The division of work is settled, the statute is not. As a consortium, we are committed to delivering our proposal. That calls for an organisation that can keep existing and growing beyond the start-up phase. The formal governance charter is itself still a deliverable of that phase; further down you can see what that means in practice.

The seven who carry it

Seven parties signed up for BRIX, and all seven bring in a location; together they make up the labs you find on the labs page. What each one brings is listed under the partners.

Besides the consortium, BRIX works with suppliers, IX expert partners and industry partners. They do not carry the programme but supply it or take part in it; they are listed under the partners.

How we build BRIX

The programme consists of seven work packages. Each package has one lead who monitors progress, and in almost every package several partners contribute.

Who leads which package is arranged internally and changes during the programme. What counts from the outside is that the work follows these lines.

In what order

All seven packages run through the same four phases. That makes progress add up: no lab follows a route of its own.

Q4 2026 — platform launch and start of BRIX services. From then on, you can go to any lab. What follows expands on what is already there.

Start-up Q3 – Q4 2026
Governance, design and planning.
Set-up Q4 2026 – Q1 2027
Investing, implementing and standardising.
Operational phase 1 2027 – 2028
Delivery of facilities and processes; scaling up what is running.
Operational phase 2 2028 – 2029
Delivery of services; operations and long-term sustainability.

From the launch, every lab can be approached. The later phases add to it; they do not start over. The individual milestones per work package are not on this page: their dates may still shift.

How we steer BRIX

A core team safeguards coherence, with working groups per cluster beneath it. The core team is not in charge of the labs: each lab remains responsible for what happens there, and for the agreements it makes with a client.

What the core team does do is make sure every lab gets the same treatment. That is why every lab has the same page structure, the same fields and the same image space, and why every referral of a request comes with a reason. That neutrality is not etiquette but the condition under which seven parties dare to entrust their clients to one another.

BRIX within IX Labs NL

BRIX is one of the five IX labs of IX Labs NL, the national network of IX labs in the Netherlands. TNO is the lead partner, with the five labs in it, within CIIIC.

What BRIX adds there is the connection. BRIX itself already spans seven partners, public and private. So questions about shared capacity, one fair intake and exchangeable material meet practice here first. What we solve, we share.

The other IX labs will get their own national page on ixlabsnl.nl. It is not online yet.

Governance & publications

Two things are not settled yet. They are here because a consortium page that shows only what is finished is worthless to anyone who has to decide on it.

  • The governance charter does not exist yet. Who decides on what, at what rhythm, and who signs for what — that is itself a deliverable of the start-up phase. What is above is the division as agreed in the programme, not a statute.
  • BRIX will become a separate entity. An organisation focused purely on connecting the IX labs that have joined BRIX. The exact structure is still to be decided and is part of this build-up phase. What that means for who you sign an agreement with, and who to ask about your data, is set out in the privacy statement.

Once the governance charter and its accompanying documents are adopted, they will be published here.
