Five IX labs, one national network. BRIX is one of them.
The Netherlands now has a national network of five IX labs: BRIX, IX3, MIX Lab, PRIME and SHINE. Together they form IX Labs NL. Anyone who wants to research, train or create with immersive technology will find facilities there that no organisation needs to buy on its own.
The national CIIIC programme, part of the Dutch National Growth Fund, connects five regional labs into one network. BRIX is based in Brabant, IX3 in Amsterdam, MIX Lab in Hilversum, PRIME in Zeist and SHINE in Rotterdam. Each lab has its own speciality. IX stands for immersive experiences. In them, the digital and physical worlds merge, and you take part instead of watching. Think of a surgeon rehearsing an operation in virtual space. Or residents walking through their future neighbourhood before it is built.
The equipment behind this is costly and specialised: motion capture, virtual production, spatial audio, haptics, dome projection. Through the labs, it becomes shared infrastructure. Companies, researchers, educators and public bodies no longer need to invest in it themselves. According to CIIIC programme director Heleen Rouw, that is exactly the point.
BRIX is the network lab for IX research, training and edutainment. Seven consortium partners together contribute twelve labs, each with its own lab manager. Every lab gets the same space on this site. Wherever you come in, it starts with an intake. It is free and without obligation.
This is the first phase. CIIIC plans to expand the network further, with more labs, learning communities and partnerships. The five labs officially open on 18 November 2026.
